LiNK OUT LOUD

April 20, 2011 by University of Illinois U-C   Comments (1)

This past Sunday all our hard work and planning paid off at the LiNK OUT LOUD Benefit Concert! With a lot of change in our lineup and complications along the way, there was a lot of stress and anxiety in planning and funding for this event. BUT, it turned out to be amazing. About 350 people showed up to watch Youtube stars Manny Garcia, Passion, and Mike Song from Kaba Modern perform. They were the entertainment, but the audience found a deeper purpose for why we held the concert. We showed the "Life in North Korea" and "LiNK News Montage" video clips in between each act, and it really pulled together nicely.

Thanks to all our performers, Manny, Jeremy, Mike, Dance 2XS Crew, and our MCs Chris and Marah along with all our volunteers who helped make the show such a huge success. Last but not least, thanks to everyone who bought tickets and supported the cause. We're one refugee closer to 100.

LOL being our very first benefit show, we've learned a lot and we hope that we can raise even more money and awareness next year!  The sad part is, the end of the year has come and a new board is about come forth. We'll see what they're made of :)

Our benefit show is SO ON!! We were extremely lucky to secure Manny Garcia and Passion early on, and now we also officially have Victor Kim too!! We're getting pumped here in the Heartland to have the Nomads visit us on March 17th, and in only a month after that we'll be throwing our biggest fundraiser to date!  Wish us luck on filling up Foellinger Auditorium, a 2,500 seater hall- and if you want tickets, contact us at uiuc.link@gmail.com ;D

Momentum

After a good fall semester, our board came back from break wanting to have a GREAT spring. It hardly looks like spring with snow still on the ground and 19 degrees below zero weather, but braving the cold we had our first fundraiser of the semester. "Don't be chilly, eat some chili!" "Beat the chill, eat some chili" "Chill with us in the chill with some chili" Whatever the slogan of choice, we managed to raise a good amount of money. Success.

We have a lot of amazing things in store and we just got huge news that will send our Benefit Show in April OVER THE TOP. We will update soon and reveal the big names, but first we need help coming up with a name for the show! "Freedompaloooza"? I don't know if anyone even reads this or can even reply to this, but if you have a good idea for a name for this benefit concert/dance show/variety show, shoot us an e-mail! uiuc.link@gmail.com

We now leave you with a picture from last semester at our fundraiser, when a dude dressed like a watermelon challenged our pizza mascot to a dance battle.
